A tragic accident at Tumu Market in Akko Local Government Area of Nigeria has claimed the life of a 32-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Abubakar, after her clothes became entangled in a rice milling machine.
The incident occurred on Monday when Abubakar’s attire got caught in the moving parts of the machine, causing a severe neck injury. She was rushed to the local Cottage Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced her dead on arrival.
Confirming the incident, Gombe State Police Command said Abubakar’s body was released to her family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Describing the tragedy as “very unfortunate,” police officials issued a safety advisory urging operators and community members to exercise caution around milling and grinding machines.
“People should avoid standing too close to moving machines and should not wear flowing clothes or scarves near them. Operators are also advised to put protective covers on their machines and keep children away,” the command said in a statement.
Authorities further called on residents to promptly report unsafe machine use in their communities to help prevent similar incidents.
The Tumu Market community remains in shock over the accident, with many residents calling for increased safety measures in local rice milling facilities.
